To ensure the safe operation of thermal pipelines, oil and gas pipelines, and pressure vessels, high-speed and non-destructive testing must be carried out on these pipelines and vessels with specific devices under routine or emergency conditions. The implements of various detection measures rely mainly on manual operation with the aid of a platform. There is no effective solution when a platform cannot be built immediately or inside oil and gas pipelines and storage tanks. Therefore, it is important actual significance and practical application value to research and develop crawl device which can carry low frequency electromagnetic scanner and move vertically in the oil-gas pipelines and storage tanks etc.Under the background, the functional characteristics, composition and structure, working principle, application of the water-wall tube crawler and comparison with similar products in home and outsides are described in this thesis on the basis of researching and analyzing. Magnetic adsorption mode is selected through observing the actual conditions inside the water-wall tube and experimenting the way of driving and contacting. The whole structure is designed according to the requirements of non-destructive testing device loaded on the crawler scanning the tubes. Non-destructive testing device TS2000is used with the final piece of the crawler as a complete testing tool, thus higher detecting efficiency can be attained.
