With the improvement of engine aggrandizement, the engine components suffer high thermal load in the engine operation. Appropriate cooling measures must be taken to lower the components thermal load. If the components have faulty cooling, it causes the material strength to reduce, the friction pair lubrication conditions to worsen, the non-uniform deformation to produce, and affects the engine power, economy and reliability. Fluid-solid coupling method can get more accurate heat transfer simulation results of the engine cooling water and heated components, the cooling water flow is organized properly based on the optimization of the cooling water jacket structure to lower the thermal load, keep the engine working stably and reliably, which has become an important research direction of engine heat transfer and thermal load.A4-cylinder TCI diesel engine was taken as the research object. The engine fluid-solid coupling heat transfer model was established according to the fluid-solid coupling heat transfer analysis theory, which consisted of cylinder head, cylinder liner, cylinder block, gasket and cooling water.The temperature of the cylinder head combustion surface and cooling water were measured respectively under different engine working conditions by means of hardness plug and thermocouple, which was used to simulate and verify the accuracy of steady heat transfer and flow numerical model under engine rated condition calculation results.The simulation results were accurate and credible after contrasting with the experimental data. The defects of cooling water flow were analyzed according to the flow field and temperature field simulation results. The improvement schemes of cooling water jacket structure were presented. The cooling water flow uniformity and cooling uniformity, the thermal load of engine heated components of different schemes were analyzed and evaluated according to the simulation results to get the optimum scheme.After the improvement of the cooling water jacket structure, the cooling water flow rate increased by10%, flow uniformity and cooling uniformity improved, the heated components thermal stress decreased by10%, and didn’t change the thermal deformation.
