With the rapid development of global economy, the problems ofenvironment and energy of human society is facing a serious crisis.Developing vigorously clean energy, renewable energy has become a toppriority, so wind power has been developed and used at a large-scale asthe cheapest, the most promising green energy. Undoubtly, wind powergeneration is one of the main forms of wind energy utilization, and hasbeen incorporated into the national sustainable development strategy bymany countries. According to the wind wheel axis direction, wind turbineis divided into horizontal axis wind turbine and vertical axis wind turbine.In recent years, the horizontal axis wind turbine has been rapidlydeveloped with its mature technology, high output efficiency and highcost-effective, but the defect of unstable center of gravity, needing ayawing device, and high noise is gradually exposing with the increase ofcapacity of horizontal axis wind power generator system. At the sametime, some experts and researchers at home and aboard start to look backon the vertical axis wind power generator system, but the low rate ofutilization of wind energy is always restricting its development. Based onthe H-type vertical axis wind turbine, this paper aims to improve itsself-starting ability and the utilization rate of wind energy.Currently, the vertical axis wind power system mostly adopts a fixedpitch structure that causes the poor start-up performance, low coefficientof wind power utilization, and finally that lead to the slow developmentof vertical axis wind power system. In order to improve the self-startingability and wind energy utilization coefficient, this paper lets variablepitch control technology that adopted by horizontal axis wind turbine,which will promote the development of vertical axis wind powergeneration system. Firstly, through the analysis of force of single blade ina cycle of wind wheel rotation, this paper determined negative region of blade torque. Secondly, optimizing pitch angle of wind turbine atdifferent azimuth angles, it analyzed the blade’s force at different pitchangle and determined the best pitch angle at upwind and downwind.Finally, this paper designed its variable pitch program, and establishedsimulation model in MATLAB and verified its rationality.
