ObjectiveThe study aims at observing the effects of twirling reinforcing manipulation, including the changes of blood pressure, when giving acupuncture treatments for essential hypertension victims at the acu-point of Taichong(LR3), then attempts to explore the relationship not only between twirling draining manipulation and acupuncture effects, but also acupuncture treatment with time effects, in order to provide clinical basis for the use of reinforcing-reducing manipulation and supply new ideas for the further development of acupuncture manipulations researches and clinical treatments of hypertension.Method102patients were collected from community and hospitals. After signing informed consents, they were randomly divided into3groups by using SPSS17.0:group of twirling draining manipulation, group of needle retention and group of sham acupuncture. Patients of group one received twirling draining method after insertion, patients of group two received needle retention and of group three received sham acupuncture. The needle time were20minutes. Patients’blood pressure were measured before the insertion, just after the twirling, at5minutes,10minutes,15minutes, immediately after withdrawal(20minutes),5minutes after withdrawal,10minutes,15minutes,20minutes,25minutes and30minutes. The treatment was done one time per day and3times above. The results were recorded and the statistical analysis was done.Result1. The antihypertensive effect:the total effective rate of group one was82.15%, obvious effect occurred in10cases, normal effect occurred in11cases and no effect occurred in7cases. The total effective rate of group two was68.97%, obvious effect occurred in8cases, normal effect occurred in12cases and no effect occurred in9cases. The total effective rate of group three was3.79%, obvious effect occurred in2cases, normal effective occurred in2cases and no effect occurred in25cases. The symptom improvement:the total effective rate of group one was17.86%,2markedly effective,2normally effective and23ineffective. The total effective rate of group two was10.34%,2obviously effective,1normally effective and26ineffective. The total effective rate of group three was3.57%with only1normally effective. 2.Systolic blood pressure(1) Period comparison in one group:①There is no significant difference immediately after twirling(P>0.05), significant difference at5min of the retention period(P<0.05) and more difference after that time(P<0.01).②There is no significant difference immediately after insertion(P>0.05), significant difference at5min、10min of the retention period(P<0.05) and more difference after that time(P<0.01).③There is no significant difference among each period in the sham acupuncture group(P>0.05).(2) Comparison between groups:①There is no significant difference immediately after twirling and at5min of the retention period(P>0.05), but extremely significant difference after that(P<0.01).②There is no significant difference immediately after insertion and at5min of the retention period(P>0.05), but significant difference after that(P<0.05).③There is no significant difference among each period between group one and group two immediately after twirling and at5min,10min、15min of retention (P>0.05) and significant difference after that.3. Diastolic blood pressure(1) Period comparison in one group:①There is no significant difference immediately after twirling and at5min,10min of the retention period(P>0.05), but significant difference after that(P<0.05).②There is no significant difference immediately after insertion and at5mins、10min,15min of the retention period(P>0.05), but significant difference after that(P<0.05).③There is no significant difference among each period in the sham acupuncture group(P>0.05).(2) Comparison between groups:①There is no significant difference immediately after twirling and at5min of the retention period(P>0.05), but significant difference after that(P<0.05).②There is no significant difference immediately after insertion and at5min of the retention period(P>0.05), but significant difference after that(P<0.05). There is no significant difference among each period between group one and group two(P>0.05).Conclusion1. Acupuncture effect exists objectively. The acupuncture effect generates at a certain period of time; the acupuncture effect persists after the insertion, but later fades with time goes by. The time when the effect generates by twirling draining manipulation is earlier and the duration is longer than that with retention method.2. The blood pressure of EH patients can be reduced by needling Taichong. However, this effect is limited to the systolic blood pressure, and it is not obvious in diastolic blood pressure.3. The "twirl to the right" twirling draining manipulation can help to reduce blood pressure, especially in SBP compared with retention method. However, there is no significant difference between them in DBP.
