Objectives:The study is aimed at exploring if there is connection between tongue color and kidney damage in Type2diabetes mellitus, which is important for finding early kidney damage and being advantageous to syndrome differentiation and treatment for a traditional Chinese doctor.Methods:The qualified Type2diabetes mellitus cases were divided into5groups:blue and purple tongue group, light white tongue group, light red tongue group, red tongue group, dark reddish purple tongue group.To explore if there is a link between tongue color and kidney damage in diabetics,throught analyzing the different of glomerular filtrationrate(GFR),24-hourUrinary Albumin and urinary albumin-creatinine ratio (uACR) among the five group. Analyse the common influence factor of different tongue color and kidney damage,the influence factor which were studied include age, course of the disease, smoking and drinking history, cardiovascular complication, and the level of blood sugar,blood lipids, hemoglobin, red cell count, hematocrit, the mean corpuscular volume (MCV) and red cell distribution width (RDW),D-dimer, fibrinogen (FBG) and fibrinogen degration products(FDP).Results:There were significant statistical differences among the five group in terms of GFR(P<0.05).The GFR decreases in turn from light red tongue group to red tongue group to dark reddish purple tongue group,and the same rule exist from light red tongue group to light white tongue group to blue and purple tongue group.there was no significant difference among the five groups in terms of24-hourUrinary Albumin and uACR (P>0.05). There were significant statistical differences among the five group in terms of course of the disease, red cell count, hematocrit,D-dimer and FDP.(P<0.05). The course of the disease increases in turn from light red tongue group to red tongue group to dark reddish purple tongue group. The average level of red cell count and hematocrit is the lowest in the light white tongue group, in contrast,which is the hightest in the red tongue group. The dark reddish purple tongue group has the highest average levels of FDP and D-dimer. There were no significant statistical differences among the five group in terms of age, course of the disease, smoking and drinking history, hypertension history, hyperlipidemia history, cerebral infarction history,cardiovascular complication, the level of blood sugar,blood lipids, hemoglobin,the mean corpuscular volume and red cell distribution width and fibrinogen.Conclusions:The Change of tongue color can reflect the level of renal damage, kidneys went down in turn from light red tongue group to red tongue group to dark reddish purple tongue group,and the same rule exist from light red tongue group to light white tongue group to hlue and purple tongue group.It may be the common factor which cause tongue color change and kidney damage that including in course of the disease, red cell count, hematocrit, D-dimer and FDP.
