With the shift of the focus on language teaching from teacher-centered to learner-centered in therecent years, the learners’ factors have gradually become the hot spot of the research. To have abetter understanding of the learners’ affective factors in their English study, to help the learnerslessen their anxiety in English learning, and to improve college English language teaching, theauthor of this present thesis consulted the related literature on affective factors and made aninvestigation and research on the correlation between the overall English language learning anxietyand academic performance in college entrance examination, final examination and oral examination.What’ more, to find the reasons of anxiety in English classroom and take some strategies to reducethe anxiety is also another purpose of this thesis.The thesis consists of7parts. The first chapter is an introduction to show the purpose andsignificance. The second chapter is the literature review related to the foreign language learninganxiety in domestic and foreign countries. And the third chapter is the definition of relevantconcepts and theoretical basis of experiencing English teaching. The fourth chapter introduces theresearch methods and steps used in this study. The fifth chapter is the investigation report onstudents’ English learning anxiety in Shangrao Normal College, Jiangxi province. The sixth chapterintroduces the strategy of experiencing English mode to lessen the students’ anxiety. The lastchapter discusses the conclusions and inspiration of this study.By employing the questionnaire–Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (abbreviated asFLCAS) developed by Horwitz and Cope (1986),the oral English test and semi-structured interviewas the ways and the instruments, the present study carried out a survey on the two non-Englishmajor classes in Shangrao Normal College. All the data were collected, computed and analyzed viadescriptive statistics, t-test and Pearson correlation by SPSS. The detailed quantitative andqualitative data being analyzed, the following findings have been reached:1.The survey shows that the total anxiety is94.65,which means the anxiety of the candidates islower than the normal degree;the anxiety of class A is lower than that of class C;and the femalestudents’ anxiety is lower than the male, but it is not very distinguished.2The experiment proves that adopting the experiencing teaching mode can release the Englishlanguage learning anxiety in some extent.The above conclusions offer a number of useful implications for college English teaching andlearning. Both the teachers and the learners will be better guided to take a lot of measures to settlethe problem of English language anxiety to improve their English learning, especially theexperiencing teaching mode is useful for reference.
