Songshu-Furuizhi is a first official history work that records the auspicious and psychic phenomena. This history book, which is not written according to dynastic history, records the auspicious and psychic phenomena from Taihao emperor in ancient times to Liu Song Dynasty in its three volumes. Xiangrui, which means auspicious phenomena in China, can also be called "Furui""Ruiying""Zhenxiang""Jiarui""Fuying". It is a token of a prosperous and blooming country and world peace. As a political and cultural phenomenon, Xiangrui not only exerts profound influence on ancient Chinese politics and society, but justifies the absolute monarchy.This paper includes seven parts. The chapter one mainly illustrates the academic and practical significance of the research of Songshu-Furuizhi, presents the research status of Songshu-Furuizhi, auspicious thoughts and the author Shen Yue and points out the current shortage. The chapter two is the introduction of historiographic significance of Songshu-Furuizhi. It demonstrates Shen Yue’s life and his thoughts on history, summaries the content of Songshu-Furuizhi and describes that the exact time of book writing is in the period ruled by Qiming emperor (A.D.494-A.D.498). The chapter three analyzes the causes of book writing. It mainly includes the inheritance and development of the theory of five cyclic virtues and telepathy between heaven and man, the requirements of times, the support of sovereign, the accumulation of historical resources, the record of auspicious and psychic phenomena and disasters provided by previous historians and the author’s personal causes. The chapter four is the core of this paper. Based on previous three chapters’ research, this chapter illustrates the value of Songshu-Furuizhi. First it describe the historical value which can be divided into two parts, the value of historical resources and the value of the development and research of historiography. This book not only provides direct and concrete resources for the research of the conception of Xiangrui and the culture of Xiangrui, but also is important for the development of historiography. Second, it has significant value in political thoughts and folk culture. Based on the ideology of destiny, this book develops telepathy between heaven and man proposed by Dong Zhongshu and links the destiny with temporal sovereign closely. Meanwhile, this book can be regard as the summary of Chinese ancient culture of Xiangrui. It is also significant for the research of geography and ecology. According to its record, it is important resource for scholars to research the growing environment of the plants, the geographic distribution of animals, the change of hydrology and climate and even the transition of environment and social history at the time.
