Pragmatics is the study of verbal communication, it is knowledge of very high value and thepublic become researchers on it. The irony is a kind of language and it is very powerful speechact, is a typical pragmatic problem. One of the four famous works--" A Dream of Red Mansions"is a valuable work and for linguistics it also has very high research value. To analyze every kindlanguage of this book from the perspective of pragmatics will be a great harvest. At present, inlinguistics, specifically from the perspective of pragmatics to analyze the" A Dream of RedMansions" in discourse research is not very popular, while the book ironic discourse studies isless, only appeared a few from the broad perspective of academic achievement."A Dream ofRed Mansions" has plots and characters of complex, the book ’s ironic utterance is hidden, whichplayed a crucial role in the plots’ development and kinds of characters, the ironic discourse toconduct a comprehensive analysis of pragmatics, is not only conducive to better use of languagelearning from the perspective of the people understand the subtlety, and it will be on thelanguage used in the field of study with a useful result, will have positive effects on thepragmatics circle and even the whole linguistics.This paper on the irony of " A Dream of Red Mansions " will be a discourse in-depthanalysis of pragmatics, trying to book the irony in discourse analysis of types, pragmatic strategy,contextual factors and pragmatic functions, through the analysis to draw some valuable theory, inorder to supplement the linguistics on the ironic speech acts research, and can complement thepragmatic study on the irony discourse on my own strength.
