Chen Li, who was the scholar, educator, ideologist, philologist, and initiator of Dong Shu School, living Ling Nan area in the late Qing Dynasty. He studied hard, loved wide, and received fruitful all the life but career was bad. So he focused all the efforts to learning and cost half of his life to write the book reading notes of Dong Shu, that was the representative of the writing notes of Qing Dynasty to textual research the history, explain the reason, and fusion of Han and Song. This paper based on the traditional philology, broadened the research ideas,reviewed of Chen Li’s gains and losses in his life from his background, evaluated of reading notes of Dong Shu’s pros and cons from its content and ideas, reproduction the extensive knowledges, unique ideas and pragmatic attitude from scholar in Ling Nan area. Let more and more people understand the value and position of Chen Li and reading notes of Dong Shu.At the same time, give them the objective historical status and academic status from study and comment the academic values and ideological values of Chen Li and reading notes of Dong Shu.
