The performance of a speech act means not only to do something, but it also existsin the mutual interactions between the speaker and the hearer, thus coming into termswith theinteractivelevel.By examining a great number of speeches of National VarsityDebate, the thesisaims at analyzing and expounding the different goal relations among the differentspeakers and hearers, constructing the interactive structures and summarizing variousstrategies appliedduring thedebates. There are three chaptersin the thesis: chapter one introduces the features of debatespeeches as well as the relevant linguisticstudies, and presents the rationaleof a speechact theory separately focusing on the illocutionary act and the perlocutionary act;chapter two gives a systematic introduction of goal-directed principle; chapter threeanalyses and explains the interaction and the tactics of the debate speech acts. At last, the thesis drives at the following conclusions: the differentiation of perlocutionary actand its effect makes the interaction of speech acts possible; the interaction of speechacts is the interaction of goals, and the structures of interaction depend on differentgoals; the interaction owns the features of hierarchies and strategies. Thus, the speechacts of the speakersand hearers convey theirgoals, so they will interact with each otherto pursue and achieve their goals. So, the inference and judgment of the speaker’s goalwill contribute to therealization of the goals.
