The Characteristics Of Space And Time Of The Escaping Families In Tang Dynasty

In our country, there were always some people who escaped from the household register during the ancient times, including the Tang Dynasty. There were different features in different periods of Tang Dynasty. Doing research about those household register escapers and analyzing the space-time features in Tang Dynasty are quite helpful in deepening not only the understanding about the problem but also the cognition about the population and society in Tang Dynasty. Here are five parts in this thesis to discuss the space-time features of household register escapers and some related questions during the Tang Dynasty in detail.The first part is introduction, which introduces the definitions of household register escapers, summarizes the research both at home and abroad about the problem and lists the significance of this thesis. At present, research about this topic has achieved a lot in the academic circle, but most of them are just case study or special research about a certain topic and lack in systematical analysis. This thesis aims at discussing thoroughly and deeply about the problem of household register escapers, especially the space-time features of them, based on the former achievements.The second part explores the reasons why people escaped from the household register. With the help of those historical data and through the way of summing up all the factors that cause people to escape from household register, the author thinks that wars, unorganized institution and natural disasters are the main reasons. What’s more, the household register escapers in Tang Dynasty were the result of several factors working together.Based on an amount of literatures, the third part discusses the time features of household register escapers. The way of mathematical analysis is employed here to predict the number of escapers during the early, middle and late Tang Dynasty and then work out the proportional relationship between the number of escapers and that of non-escapers, which is clearly showed in the forms of diagram and graphs. The author thinks that people escaped from household register mainly in the early Tang Dynasty and after the An Lushan Rebellion. The two period were more people escaping from the household register. The fourth part explains the space features of household register escapers. Based on a number of historical data and the numbers of population at that time, the thesis describes the different scopes where household register escapers existed during the three periods of Tang Dynasty. Generally speaking, they were mainly from those areas where there was a large population, developed economy or frequent wars. In the early Tang, people fled to the city; in the middle Tang, people ran from the city to the country or from the a township with more peoper but less land to the township with more land but fewer people; in the late Tang, lots of people moved to the southern part.The fifth part lists the measures taken by the Tang government to manage the household register escapers. Based on the historical data, the thesis summarizes kinds of measures taken by different emperors in different periods, consisting of the household register management and other political management, economic management and so on. Also, the thesis explains the functions of these policies and measures.This paper efficiently explores the space-time features of household register escapers and related questions in the way of estimating, table listing, graphs and so on based on the former achievements and the large amounts of collected materials, which is the innovation of this thesis. By doing research, the author thinks that the situation of household register escapers in Tang Dynasty has the features of cyclicity, periodism and regional. The situation changed according to the political, national policy and economic development, which influences the society in Tang Dynasty at the same time.
