The yuan drama a kind of literary style which can not be to ignored literary style in the history of literature in Yuan dynasty. The number of yuan drama is very rich. According to the survey, the names of existing scripts are more than five hundred and thirty. The theme is very extensive, which involves all aspects of social life. The yuan drama is very popular in northern China, and gradually spread to the south. In the north, talented writers of yuan drama come out generation after generation. According to the studies conducted on the basis of writers’native place and activity lactation, several groups of writers formed in the region of DaDu, HeBei, Shanxi, Shandong and so on. Shanxi has far-reaching tradition of folk art, and drama activities were very prosperous in this region. According to <Lu Gui Bu> and<Lu Gui Bu Xu Bian>, Shanxi-born writers are twelve in all. No matter native writers or writers residing in other places have created a lot of works of drama which are various in subjects and of great artistic value. It has profound significance for understanding drama activities and culture of Shanxi to study the drama works of shanxi writers in yuan danasty.This thesis conducts a taxonomic research on yuan drama of Shanxi. In addition to the introduction and conclusion, it is made up of five parts:Chapter one briefly describes flourishing prospect in the drama creation of shanxi in yuan dynasty and analyzes the reasons. The unify war of yuan dynasty lasted six or seven years, during which the social economy was damaged seriously. Due to the special geographical position of shanxi, the economy recovered fast at the same time agriculture, handicraft, business, and press developed steadily, which laid a economic foundation for the prosperity of yuan drama. Meanwhile, Shanxi has a long history of opera culture and the forms of art performance are various. These factors also promote the prosperity of yuan drama. In addition, the favorable atmosphere of social culture is one reason among them. After analyzing the reasons, the general situation of twelve writers of shanxi, existing and losing works are listed on the basis of<Lu Gui Bu>.Chapter two focuses on love plays. A lot of dramas of Shanxi writers involve the theme love and marriage. The characteristics of women in love plays are varied. Some are gentle and intelligent, others are bold and vigorous and still others are kind-hearted and faithful. However, they have universality. All of them have simple view of love and bravely pursue the love which is based on mutual understanding, respect and help. When their love is impeded, they will boldly resist to guard their love. When dignity is trampled on, they will pursue independent personality to defend their dignity.Chapter three is an analysis of characters in historical plays. The majority of Shanxi writers have historical dramas in which vivid characters are represented. Among them, some possess the spirit of "loyalty" and "justice" and interpret the meaning by their practical action; others are provided with the character of tolerance and adamancy and clearly distinguish righteousness and evil. Still others are in the dilemma of seclusion and becoming the official. They are disappointed with social reality and willing to retire from the world, but on the other hand they are sentimentally attached to the mortal life. Therefore, they are in anxiety and hesitation.Chapter four conducts a research on the Dutuo Opera and Gongan Drama. Influenced by the dense Buddist cultural atmosphere, writers created some Dutuo Opera which is concerned with religion. By describing the process of Dutuo, writers’exploration for spiritual liberation in disappointing reality is represented. In Gongan Drama, sharp contradiction of yuan dynasty, people expectation for social justice and strong hope for honest officials are showed.Chapter five studies the influence of yuan drama of Shanxi. Yuan drama of Shanxi has a great effect on the operal in Ming and qing dynasty so that during that period opera activities were prosperous and many dramas and legend works were produced. Meanwhile, the yuan drama and operas of Ming and Qing dynasties promote the development of commercial culture of shanxi.
