"Growth" is often the motif of film performance. But inMainland China, growth movie always centers on men. What’s moreits relevant academic research is not sufficient, and lacks the genderperspective.Since the1990s, rare attention and performance to the growth ofindividual woman have become a compelling cultural phenomenon inMainland China, resulting in the appearance of a number ofoutstanding movies with female growth as the theme. China’smulticultural shape on the concept and creation of movie, along withfemale movies in the west and the introduction of feminist theory areall closely linked to it. From a comprehensive criticism perspective,namely psychoanalysis, feminism criticism and psychology, the thesistries to make a clear definition to “female growth” with the femalegrowth movies from1990s in Mainland China as its research object.Meanwhile by analyzing the influence of important figures aroundwomen such as parents, sisters, lovers on her growth, this paper aimsat digging out the abundant connotations of female growth themes.The whole thesis is divided into four chapters besidesIntroduction and Conclusion.The first chapter deals with some definitions, i.e.“growththemes”,“growth movies” as well as “female growth movies". The second chapter discusses the close relationship betweenoriginal family environment and female growth, which has beenshown in the mainland movies since the1990s. In the original family,ethical relations especially father and daughter, mother and daughterexert an extremely important influence on female growth. For women,different relationships between father and mother bring difference totheir growing experience.In the third chapter, the thesis centers on the relationshipbetween female and male, which is always key to themes inperformance. Love and marriage are the most important tests in theprocess of female growth. Acting as a double-edged sword, it is likelyfor man to become a positive guider, bringing women positive growth;on the other hand, he may become an obstructor, causing femalegrowth into the wrong way.In the fourth chapter, same-sex relationship has been dividedinto "sister friendship" and "gay war". Parts of the movies alsoinvolve the impact of same-sex relations in women growth andhave a deep performance.
