As The Medium Of Intercultural Communication Of Chinese Culture Teaching Material Research

Chinese cultural textbook is the textbook that object to teaching Chinese; its main content is to introduce Chinese culture. It is not only a teaching material aimed at training language skills, but also an important medium of intercultural communication. Nowadays, the lack of suitable Chinese cultural textbooks is hindered the cultural improvement of teaching quality, moreover, it becomes the bottleneck of the dissemination of Chinese culture. However, concluded by experience, the analysis on present cultural materials is fragmented and lack theoretical support. From the perspective of intercultural communication theory, this article takes three representative books Intermediate Chinese·A Cultural Approach, Panorama of Chinese Culture and Talking About Chinese Culture as examples to investigate the preparation process and accept level of textbooks.Encoding and decoding are the two most important links in the chain of intercultural communication. Chinese cultural textbooks are the medium of this two sides. In encoding process, lack of knowledge in cultural differences, stereotypes and ethnocentrism might easily lead to encoding failure. Thus, textbooks writers should avoid these in order to achieve the effective dissemination of textbook knowledge and value. As for decoding process, we use interview way to investigate the learners’ reading acceptance, to analyze their needs and Chinese culture cognition, and to figure out their misunderstanding and conflicts in the learning process. Then we make recommendations based on the research results, hoping that this article can provide a reference for the future compilation of Chinese cultural teaching materials.
