The thesis is a study of expressing Chinese verb-object construction in Shanghai variety of Chinese Sign Language based on fieldwork data. Topics such as word order and verb-object correspondence are discussed, the verb-object construction in Shanghai Sign Language is defined as well.Chinese verb-object construction is expressed simultaneously and sequentially in Chinese Sign Language."Simultaneous Verb-Object Unit" is the most distinctive from in simultaneity and "O+V" is the basic order in sequentiality, the constructions with classifiers are more complicated. Types and conditions of verb-object correspondence are summarized in the thesis. Talmy’s theory on motion events is used in relevant topics. With the investigation and analysis, only sequential word order is defined as verb-object construction in Shanghai variety of Chinese Sign Language. And the simultaneous constructions need special analysis. The verb-object construction with classifiers is viewed as a special verb-object construction in Shanghai variety of Chinese Sign Language. |
