Since the end of the cold war the security of East Asia has been lying in great uncertainty. East Asiahas not built a regional security regime and has no shared culture and identity; there remains some latentsecurity flashpoints. China and the United States, as two of the most significant countries with hugeinfluence on the region, could be considered as two crucial variables of East Asia security. UnstableSino-US security relations in the region have expressed contradictory traits of confrontation andcoordination in post-cold war era. In view of idea, the thesis try to analyze the idea’s influences onSino-US security relations in East Asia and believe these ideas could be divided into three layers. The firstlayer—Sino-US. consensus on international system is governed by anarchy and divergence oninternational system is multipolar or unipolar, which are considered as world views shared by two sides inthis thesis; the second layer--Sino-US disputes on values and ideologies, which are considered asunbridgeable principled believes disputes in this thesis, should be trivialized; the third layer--perceptionstoward definitions of national security threats and means of safeguarding national security, which areviewed as causal believes in this thesis could be an opportunity for cultivating cooperative culture. At last,this thesis believes that China and United States could promote cooperation on security issues, and theconstructing of cooperative culture in regional security relations between China and the United Stateswould help strengthen stability and improve prosperity in East Asia.
