As the American historian of navy Mahan founded Sea Power Theory which had aprofound impact on the countries around the world in the end of the19thcentury.America vigorously developed marine cause based on this theory. America completedthe successful transition from big land power to big sea power in the end of the19thcentury. Later America finished the transition from big sea power to big marine powerbetween the Second World War and the Cold War. Then America successfully finishedthe naval expansion and expanded the political influence. The naval power and seatrade also had a buildup. The national security also was ensured because of the bignaval power. American comprehensive national power had a reinforce and advance.The first part of this paper focuses on the Mahan’s theory of sea power and itsimpact on the countries around the world. The second part focuses on Americanmaritime political and diplomatic strategy from two aspects: maritime expansionstrategy from the end of the19thcentury to the beginning of the20thcentury andocean policy between the Second World War and the Cold War. The third part mainlyintroduced American maritime economic and technological strategy from two aspects:the oceanic economic strategy from the end of the19thcentury to the beginning of the20thcentury and the oceanic technological strategy between the Second World Warand the Cold War. The fourth part mainly focuses on American maritime militarystrategy from two aspects: the naval strategy from the end of the19thcentury to thebeginning of the20thcentury and the oceanic security strategy between the SecondWorld War and the Cold War. Thereby we can clearly and comprehensivelyunderstand American maritime strategy and its impact on American developmentfrom the appearance of Sea Power Theory to the end of Cold War.
