On The Role Of Wife In The Tang Code

The relationship between husband and wife is the spindle of the ancient familyrelationship. As a party of the main body of the marriage，the wife’s position is certainlyworth exploring. As the towering mountain peaks from code，the Tang Code has beenstudied by many researchers，and made a lot of research results. This article only discussthe position of wife from the provision of the Tang Code，in hope of clarifying the positionof wife in the open tang dynasty. This article is divided into four parts to survey the statusof wife comprehensively: The first part，the wife in Tang Dynasty analysis relative to herhusband’s family ’s position including the wife, the husband and father status crime andfamily elders. The second part, Tang Dynasty in his wife relative to her husband’s status,including the obligations of the wife to husband, wife in divorce and legal status. The thirdpart, analysis with respect to the children’s position. The fourth part, the analysis of legaland practical relationship between husband and wife, husband wife to respect the humbleorigin, polygamous conjugal relation in the actual life, etc. The Tang Code as ancientChinese agricultural society representative code, due to the relative stability of agriculturalsociety, need fixed labor productivity, attached to the descent, which allowed by thepresence of marriage is monogamy, supplementary form of concubinage. We should takethe dialectical historical perspective on the wife in Tang Dynasty status were studied, basedon the prevailing social conditions make objective evaluation.
