The research of national and state identities is the basic theory of patriotic education. It relates withpolitical science, ethnology, sociology, history, and ideological and political education. Since ancienttimes, China has been a unified multi-ethnic country. The56nations have close relationship with eachother, strengthening the national identity in contact with the aliens. The56nations went throughintegration three times in history. The ethnic minorities continued to integrate into the Han ethnic group, and Han ethnic group continued to enrich the ethnic minority population. Economic interdependenceand cultural interaction made them inseparable. The formation of Chinese nation is a process fromcomfortable to conscious. In this process, the identity of the Chinese nation was a common belief of allpeoples, and recognizing the great motherland was the source of power of relentless struggling.Proposed by Fei Xiaotong,‘pluralistic integration of Chinese Nation’ has a far–reaching impact onour national policy formulation. Therefore, this thesis has based on the perspective to research therelationship of national and state identities, especially the relationship of national and state identities inthe Tibet autonomous region and the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. National identity can’tdirectly reach to the state identity, and it must go through the identity of the Chinese nation. This is theparticularity of our country to achieve national and state identities. The ethnic minorities are living in China’s western region, which always been lower level areas ofeconomic, cultural and social development since ancient times. Due to the impact of unbalancedregional economic development, globalization and ethnic separatism, although the material and spirituallife of China’s minority areas have greatly improved, but there still have some ethnic conflicts.Enhancing the patriotic education of all ethnic groups, from national identity to the Chinese nationidentity, and then to the national identity, is one path of the coordination of national and state identities. This thesis is divided into four chapters. Firstly, starting analysis of the Chinese nation identityformation process in the perspective of the ‘Pluralistic Integration of Chinese Nation’ and puttingforward a construction model of national and state identities. For the emergence of state identity crisis,by analyzing its causes, then propose recommendation for our people of all nations to enhance stateidentity.
