On Our Ways Of Realizing Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate social responsibility, as a theory which challenges the traditional maximizing the interests of the shareholders, arose from the beginning of last century in the United States. Soon it received wide attention in both theoretical and practical circles. Scholars have engaged in a fierce discussion and in-depth study, some are in favor of the point of view while others in the opposite side. In the practical circle, there are also two different attitudes:support or to resist. Today, however, corporate social responsibility has become the inevitable trend of economic and social development which is a universal consensus reached.Corporate social responsibility requires that companies can not just follow the leadership of the shareholders, and only seek the interests of shareholders while ignoring the interests of other stakeholders. The company should also maintain and promote the value of non-shareholder stakeholders including employees, consumers, creditors, local community. Otherwise, corporate social responsibility includes environmental responsibility and charitable responsibilities as well.This article aims to seek ways to realize our corporate social responsibility. The specific content is divided into four parts. The first part is about the basic theory of corporate social responsibility. It includes description of the background of corporate social responsibility, interpretation of the concept of corporate social responsibility and the scope of corporate social responsibility based on the responsible objects perspective.The second part is about the theoretical basis and practical significance of corporate social responsibility. The theory of stakeholders, the enterprise contract theory and the theory of corporate citizens provide theoretical support for the theory of corporate social responsibility, and we also make an analysis from three perspectives which are protection to the responsibility objects, sustainable development of the company and building a harmonious society, thus lay the foundation for the legitimacy of corporate social responsibility.The third part is about the exploration of ways to realize corporate social responsibility in United States, Germany and Japan. It includes "the other stakeholder clause "and the incentive system of corporate social responsibility of the United States, the Participation of employee in management and the banks involving in the system of Germany and corporate culture playing a guiding role to corporate social responsibility in Japan. These extraterritorial ways to realize corporate social responsibility provide useful insights for our country:the law is the fundamental guarantee for the implementation of corporate social responsibility; corporate governance is an important means to realize corporate social responsibility; realizing corporate social responsibility requires a variety of ways with each other.The last part is the focus of this article. It is about the status of our ways of realizing corporate social responsibility and specific improving measures. First, the main existing ways of realizing corporate social responsibility consist of the norms of the law, the social supervision from the citizens, civil society groups and media and the guiding from corporate culture which not yet fully plays its role in the achievement of corporate social responsibility. We elaborated on the status and problems of these three ways and the purpose is to find solutions to those problems. The end of this article is about the specific measures proposed which includes improving the relevant legislation, strengthen of social supervision mechanism of the corporate social responsibility and establishing and implementing corporate social responsibility-oriented corporate culture.
