Mao Zedong’s inquiry and conception of China’s agricultural modernizationcenter around changes in the modern and contemporary agricultural relations and thedevelopment of production forces. This inquiry is the theoretical cornerstone of theagricultural policy in China. The change in the world and in China in the early andmiddle of the20thcentury is the background of Mao’s exploration; the theoreticalguide of Mao’s conception of the agricultural modernization road for china comesfrom the classic exposition of Marxism-Leninism concerning agriculturalmodernization. The exploration undergoes stages of the New-Democratic Revolution, the transitional period of socialism and socialism of the early construction and thetortuous period of the Great Leap Forward and the People’s Commune. Mao’sexploration and conception concerning the modernization of agriculture in chinacontains the following features:1) the change of agricultural production relations forthe liberation of agricultural force of production;2) agricultural modernization basedon cooperation and mechanization;3) going all out and trying the best to buildsocialism;4) to promoting the socialist modernization based on the developing ofagricultural modernization. Mao’s exploration has the following significances:1)building the policy platform for the agricultural modernization through the change ofagricultural relations of production;2) pushing forward the force of production andimprove agricultural productivity;3) consolidate peasant-worker alignment to boostnew familial relations in the countryside; showing that technology is the key to theproblem of “agriculture, peasant, and countryside.” At the same time, the failure andmistake in Mao’s exploration let us know that agricultural development presupposesobservation of basic laws and seeking truth from facts.
