After China’s accession to the WTO, the auto industry has been developed rapidly.As the pillar industry and the strategic industry in China, auto industry has become animportant production department of the national economy, which plays an important roleand far-reaching influence in China’s economy, science and technology and socialdevelopment.Intellectual property is the core competitiveness of the auto industry, the intellectualproperty of auto designs is the very important part of auto industry especially, whichdirectly affect the safety and the development of the auto industry. The lack of intellectualproperty will not only lead to the loss of the economic interests of automobile industry,more make the decline of a country’s innovation ability and competition ability. AlthoughChina has paid more and more attention to the intellectual property of auto designs, butstill often meet obstacles in the process of development, which influence the developmentof the auto industry. The reason is consciousness of the auto enterprise’s intellectualproperty rights and the faultiness of our country’s intellectual property system.The paper firstly makes a summary about the system of auto designs and introducesthe protection situation of auto designs at home and abroad. Then point out some problemsof our country’s current protection of auto designs with the methods of comparativeresearch and empirical analysis and puts forward some humble advice to solve theproblems. The paper is divided into six parts:The first part is the introduction, which mainly introduces the research background,significance, main research methods and literature review at home and abroad.The second part of this paper introduces the concept of the industrial designs ofautomobile, characteristics and the scope of protection.The third part mainly introduces the United States, Japan and Germany’s intellectualproperty of auto designs.The fourth part introduces the protection system of our country’s auto design, andanalyzing the necessity that our country needs to strengthen the protection of auto design.The fifth part thinks the defects of current system trough the above analysis and putforward some suggestions to promote the development of the auto industry.The sixth part is the conclusion to summarize the paper.
