The DiaoYu Islands are situated in the northeast parts ofTaiwan province near the East Sea, where it is only6.5squarekilometers.The DiaoYu Islands are composed of several small islands, including Diaoyu Island, Wangwei Yu, Chiwei Yu and some very smallrocks. The Chinese government always claims that the DiaoYu Islands areone part of its inherent territory. Based on the historical documents andbooks we have now, we could conclude that it is Chinese people to firstlydiscover these islands, thus named and made use of these islands. Theearliest historical documents that recorded the DiaoYu Islands were《SHUN FENG XIANG SONG》during the Ming Dynasty, aftermaththere were so many other historical documents and related books fromChina and Japan and western world that recorded the DiaoYu Islandsproved that the sovereignty of the DiaoYu Islands belong to China. In theyear of1895, Japanese government officially classified these islands as onepart of its land during the cabinet conference and gradually took control ofthe whole island by its military force illegally. The Chinese governmentalways claims its territory rights over the DiaoYu Islands and stresses thatDiaoYu Islands belong to China. The actions that Japanese government hastaken will not bring about any legitimate force in terms of international law. The “1969report” predicated that the area of East Sea may potentiallyhave great amounts of oil and natural gas resource which both have specialmeanings to China and Japan, together with its unique position, it would beseen as very strategically important to both countries in terms of themilitary.Today both China and Japan have different point views towardsthe issue of DiaoYu Islands. The purpose of this paper is mainly to lookback to the source of the issue of Diaoyu Islands and try to analyses thenature of the issue from different perspectives; hopefully it would give thereferences for further confirming the fact that DiaoYu Islands belong toChina.
