Women’s political participation is a critical component of women’s right and an important measurement of political democracy improvement. Women in rural areas are a special and indispensable group in democratic dialogue and social cohesion. Therefore it is an significant topic of current democracy construction to care, motivate and encourage women’s engagement into political affairs widely in a passionate, initiative manner. The current condition of women’s political participation in rural and pastoral areas was examined in this study through investigating political participation of women in3villages of Kulun Banner, Tongliao city, Inner Mongolia. The results have shown that women in rural areas have not fully and effectively participated into civil and political affairs and are still the disadvantaged group in terms of political rights even though the construction of democratic politics has been improving steadily and the political awareness of women in the rural areas has increased significantly with the progressive development of economics. Furthermore it was also pointed out that political, economic, cultural and historical factors are all involved in the issue of women’s political participation. Due to the fact that the political, economic and culture development are far beyond expected standard in rural areas, improving women’s political involvement will retain a long term target to be solved in a progressive manner and proper guidance is needed to be present. At the end of this paper, it has been suggested that enhancement of political education, social support and unremitting efforts of women would contribute to ameliorate political environment to women in rural areas.
