China and Pakistan are states of completely different social system and ideology. However the’all weather and all aspect’relations between the two countries have been setting good examples to the bilateral relations all over the world since they established a formal diplomatic relation in1951. The traditionally close relationship between China and Pakistan cooled off somewhat with the end of the Cold war, mainly due to disappearance of the Soviet military threat and China’s efforts to improve its relations with India. Despite under circumstances like the collapse of USA-Soviet Union bipolar confrontation and a declining trend of military importance in international relations, China and Pakistan set up new’comprehensive strategic partnership’ in the early21st century especially after the incident of’9.11’which made the diplomatic ties between the two countries reach a unprecedented level. What are the driving factors and realistic foundation of the dynamic evolving patterns of ’political and military alliance—setback and fluctuation of bilateral relations—new comprehensive strategic partnership’. In the era of globalization, the contents of national security, the approaches to reach national security goals and the environment of regional and global scenario have undergone great changes due to the deepening economic dependence among nations. There are two basic judges of the realistic foundation of new Sino-Pak comprehensive strategic partnership. On one hand, China and Pakistan needed to confront the ’common enemy’ in the past. On the other, currently the two countries are seeking’ common security and mutual benefit’via close cooperation. Apparently the latter of the two judges seems more decisive and influential in the process of diplomatic policy making between China and Pakistan. Meanwhile it is important to realize that China and Pakistan have different motives to develop such kind of relationship in accordance with their national interests. Due to that asymmetric demand of national interests, China and Pakistan new strategic partnership might be facing challenges and changes.
