Conservatism idea has always been Britain’s most important political ideology. It isreflected by the political thought system of the Conservative Party, one of the two majorparties in Britain. British conservatism, since the official formation as a political ideology,marked by the publication of Edmund Burke’s “Further reflections on French revolution”, hasexperienced four stages such as Peel’s conservatism, Disraeli’s conservatism, One Nationconservatism and Thatcherism, and has a significant impact on the policies of UK, especiallyon its diplomatic policyAfter the World War II, Britain’s environment has undergone a qualitative change, bothdomestically and internationally. As national power decaying and the economy to the brinkof collapse, the British diplomacy with the decline of its political status became more passive,“sun” was losing its empire. In order to save the British economy and the Empire, the BritishConservative thought had made a great contribution. British conservatism, throughdevelopment and change, became more flexible. The conservative party leader WinstonChurchill made his famous "three-ring diplomacy" policy. Later Successive BritishGovernments have been around the "three-ring diplomacy" to treat its foreign objects flexible,timely introduction of foreign policy, which played an important role in the post-war Britisheconomic recovery and development.This paper is founded on the basis of compilation of the British conservative thought andpost-war British foreign date, and analysis conservative thought, the British conservativethought and the post-war British Foreign development, thereby in-depth analysis of theEnglish conservatism thought thoroughly to the postwar English diplomacy influence.This article is mainly composed of two parts of the introduction and text. Theintroduction points out the research topic, explains the background and significance of thetopic, briefly summarizes the current situation of the topic, and makes a brief description ofthe difficult and research methods. The text is made up of three parts. The first part: theformation and characteristics of conservative thought. This part is mainly based on theprevious studies, summarized the formation of conservatism, conservatism after the formationof the main ideological features and basic principles. The second part: the development andcharacteristics of British conservatism. First, the definition of British conservatism is given,later, on that base, the development and characteristics of British conservatism is summarized.The third part: the British conservatism and post-war British foreign policy. This section isbased on the changes and development of post-war British conservative thought and policy,and analyzes the impact of British conservatism of its diplomacy, through three aspects, such as the British conservatism on the "Anglo-American relations", on the European continent’sdiplomacy and diplomatic relations of the Commonwealth.
