Research On The Women Association Of Xinjiang During The Period Of Sheng Shicai

Women are the important power which create the civilization of human andpromote the progress of society. Before the20thcentury, the women in Xinjiang werenot only forced by imperialism, feudalism, bureaucratic capitalism called “threemountains”, but also suffer from the authoritativeness of the politic, father, husband,holy called “four great ropes”. They had no political rights and no economicalindependence. Besides, Xinjiang lies in the northwest of the motherland with thenature of backward. So the women’s freedom consciousness of Xinjiang germinatedlater. For a long time, women only played a role in the “boudoir” or “brothel”.With the development of the revolution of1911and the new culture campaign,the idea of the liberation of women and the equality between men and women wasgradually spread into Xinjiang. The found of the women association of Xinjiang in1934made it come true that women in Xinjiang had their own organization. It playedan important role in advocating the equal rights between men and women, promotingthe liberation of the women, bringing up the political status and cultural level and soon. It also promoted the rising of women movements, which had an importantinfluence on the society at that time.This paper consists five sections in total. The section of forward described theaim and significance, the general situation of research, the research method and trainof thought. The first section described the women’s social status of all ethnic groupsof Xinjiang before the20thcentury from the aspect of politics, economy, culture,education and marriage and so on, and pointed out that the rising of the womeneducation and the influence on women’s freedom consciousness germinating by therevolution of1911and the socialist revolution in October of Russia. After ShengShicai took office, all aspects in politics, economy and culture made some progress,which laid the foundation of the found of the women association. The second onemainly described the completing and developing of the women association. The central committee of communist part of China appointed officials to Xinjiang, whichbrought new thoughts and cultures to Xinjiang. With the development of the womenassociation increasingly, it had its own propaganda position with center in DiHua andbranch organizations all over Xinjiang. The third one described all kinds of activities.They are mainly propaganda, education, donation for resistance, the welfare cause ofwomen and kids and so on. The fourth one described its status and influences. Fromits development and activities, we can conclude that the influences made by itexpanded increasingly. The thoughts, politics, culture, education, producing and livingand so on have changed greatly among all ethnic groups of women in Xinjiang.This paper seeks to systematically describe and conclude the women associationof Xinjiang. And it studies Xinjiang lying in the period of transformation and thesituation of the women association, and its influence on women and society, whichsupplement the content of the period of Sheng Shicai on local history of Xinjiangfrom another perspective.
