Whether in daily communication or English test, Listening plays a veryimportant role in the process of learning English. With the increasing internationalcommunication, English is paid more and more concern, which gives prominence tolistening. However, considering the current situation of the teaching of Englishlistening in junior school, it seems to disappoint us with its many problems. For aninstant, the teacher teaches listening in a single way, while not emphasizing themethod of combination of pronunciation, meaning and form to promote listeningteaching. Merely, they enhance the listening level by increasing the amount oflistening training. As a consequence, we are facing a problem about low level inEnglish listening.Aiming at this current situation, on one hand, based on the theory of informationprocessing, schema theory and voluntary attention theory, the thesis explains readingaloud has a positive effect in English listening. Firstly, it analyzes the essence andprocess of listening comprehension, to illustrate that information processing systemand sound discrimination play an important role in the listening process. It definitelyincludes three stages: perception, parsing, and utilizing, in which information isperceptive, encoded, stored and utilized. Secondly, with the foundation of relatedtheories, this thesis analyzes the essence and process of reading aloud. It explainsreading aloud is a process in which it combines multi-sense to process information.Reading aloud mostly contains phonetic plan and speech production. Depending onanalyzing the two processes, reading aloud is conducive to information processingand sound discrimination, go further and say, not only does it optimize the listeningimage in sound discrimination, but also it realizes various transitions between sounddiscrimination system and character discrimination system, which makes the processof sound discrimination automatic gradually. In other words, reading aloud gives ahigh proficiency about sound recognition system on the change from soundinformation to language information. Thus, it promotes English listening. On the other hand, the thesis carried out an empirical study, which was to observe whether reading aloud has a positive influence on enhancing the students’listening ability in words and sentences. I chose forty-six students as my subjects inclass one, grade three in junior middle school, to do the experiment, Twenty-threestudents of them belong to the experimental group and the rest of them belong to thecontrol group. Before the experiment, two tests on listening and reading aloud wereimplemented on the students. Then, we came to a result that there is a parallel in theability of students’listening and reading aloud. This fact acted as a premise to do theexperiment. The reading aloud training for a period of two-month was carried out onthe experimental group, mainly reading before class and in class. However, the formerhas a larger proportion .During the process of training, the teacher taught the rightway of reading aloud, which made sure of the validity of reading aloud. With thesame reading material, however, the two groups had different ways of input. Theexperimental group read the materials in a way of reading aloud, while the controlgroup read the materials in a way of reading silently. At the end of the reading aloudtraining, there were also two tests about listening and reading aloud. At the same time, the two groups had a word test, aim of which was to that reading aloud has a positiveeffect on the ability of listening in words. After analyzing the results and data of theexperiment, I came to the conclusion: 1) There exists inner relationship betweenreading aloud and listening 2) The students in experimental group who had a period oftraining of correct reading aloud made more rapid progress in listening level thanthose who didn’t and the difference was significant., especially in words, sentencesand contest. As a positive method in promoting listening, reading aloud can apply toEnglish listening teaching.
