American "Courage to Teach" Program is designed and proposed byAmerican famous educator and scholar---Park·J·Palmer.He designed this programespecially for the elementary and secondary teachers of public schools, aiming atpromoting teachers’ professional development by motivating their integrity andwholeness.This program is proved to be successful during its 18 yearsdevelopment.In the past few years, Scholars from home and abroad all came up with theconcept "Teacher professional autonomic development". It presumes that teachers’professional development shall neither be technological development beyondoneself or passive development restrained by anyone else. A good way ofprofessional development should focus on teacher themselves, and emphasize onthe initiative and consciousness of teachers. However, many teachers are holdingnegative attitude when it comes to professional development. They lack theawareness of active develop which leads to the outcome of improvement of theirprofession.Teaching is a profession needs to update one’s mind, heart and spirit. If youdon’t want to be worn out, you need to try to enjoy your work. My essay chooseAmerican "Courage to Teach" Program as the object. I try to find an effective wayof our country’s teacher professional development based on introducing andanalyzing this program.In part 1" Introduction" discuss the purpose, theoretical significance andreality value of this topic, as well as do the summary of previous literatures onteachers’ professional development and "Courage to Teach" program.In part 2 "Introduction to American ’Courage to Teach’ Program ". First Iintroduce the background, that is the current situation and features of Americanteacher professional development. Then I introduce the theoretical basis, structureand function and finance of this program. I particularly introduce the 6 importantelements and rules to create an safe space for discussing. In part 3" Outcome and Analysis of American ’Courage to Teach’ Program ", Itry to find the success reason and shortages of this program based on the researchand evaluations other scholars wrote.In pare 4 "What do we learn from American ’Courage to Teach’ Program ", Itry to reflect on the good and bad parts about this program, combining the currentsituation of our country’s teacher professional development. I propose solutionsand suggestions specific on personal efforts, externally support, governmentlegislation, and fund raising etc.
