Curriculum is not only a technical problem, but also a problem containing politics and ideology, and it has a characteristic of "social controlling". Sociological basis research on curriculum is to show the process of how the society acts on curriculum. Or rather, it is to study how the curriculum’s characteristics of "social controlling" form (the social control of the curriculum) and how the curriculum acts on the society (the social control achieved by curriculum). Strengthening our country’s sociological basis research on curriculum is not only good for our country’s curriculum theory and practice, but also good for the society’s steady and development.The achievement of West Country’s sociological basis research on curriculum is relatively rich. From the macro point view, it grows up from Sociology, Education Sociology and Curriculum Sociology, and it experiences a process from "general" to "clear", from spontaneous study to specialized study. From the microscopic point of view, it processes from macro study to microcosmic study, from curriculum’s external conditions study to curriculum’s internal relations study; from empirical study to explanatory study, and at last tends to comprehensive study. In this process, Education Sociology branches many schools, which analyze curriculum from different angle.Our country’s sociological basis research on curriculum is relatively poor. It mainly focus on three aspects, which are social analysis on curriculum, sorting out and digestion of West Country’s achievement, and exploration of creating our country’s "Curriculum Sociology". There exist some problems among these studies, such as a lack of research efforts, imbalance of paradigm, low degree of localization, and the research’s low inefficiency. So, we should pay more research efforts, create three-dimensional paradigm, promote the localization of research, and improve the research’s efficiency.The Sociology functioning mechanism explores the operation mechanism of social control system. The subsystems (curriculum structure, curriculum standard, curriculum contents, and curriculum implement and curriculum evaluation) of curriculum system are reflected in the dominated classes’values and ideology in the society. Curriculum decision is country’s will and mainstream ideology of the society’s reflection in education. Curriculum structure is the overall layout of curriculum knowledge by the society. Curriculum standard is the political legislation of choosing and organizing curriculum knowledge. Curriculum contents are the choosing and organizing of curriculum knowledge by the society. Curriculum implement is the social transformation and explanation of curriculum knowledge. Curriculum evaluation is monitoring of curriculum operation and the validation of curriculum effect. They are not only controlled by the society, but also serve for the society, thus have an obvious characteristic of "social controlling"...
