Through the video observation of Wang Hao’s performance in1/8,1/4, semi-finals and finals of Men’s singles in the51st World Table Tennis Championship, this essay divides the competition into three parts, attack-after-service phase, receive-after-service phase and the phase of stalemate, to gather statistics of scoring rate, losing rate, and hitting rate on each technical usage, hoping to analyze the use of Reverse Penhold Backhand in the competition through the statistics of tactics application. This essay is written with a purpose of improving our technical level of Reverse Penhold Backhand and to provide some scientific theories and references. This essay mainly uses the method of video observation, literature analysis, mathematical statistics, three index assessment method of table tennis, and sectional index assessment method for statistics and analysis. The conclusions are as follows:1Wang Hao uses Reverse Penhold Backhand well. He almost uses this skill when playing backhand adept ball, and rarely uses other techniques. He takes the initiation in the first three moves.2During the receiving phase, the use of Reverse Penhold Backhand to twist, pull, and flip makes him play actively, changing the passive status to active one, and creating opportunities for scoring.3During the stalemate phase, although the use rate of the Reverse Penhold Backhand is lower than the first three moves, in the process of dealing with near-table rally, Reverse Penhold Backhand has the advantages of tiny movements, strong flexibility and fast wrist. The ball with strong spin is the main factor of restricting the stability of Reverse Penhold Backhand.4As a technology to make up the defects of Backhand Straight, Reverse Penhold Backhand played a significant role in the game; however, players cannot depend on the backhand excessively. They should combine it with the forehand attack, which is the developing direction of Penhold fast attack method.
