Grammar plays a prominent part in English Learning. Learning grammar well is conducive to developing the level of language and students will obtain significantly in better understanding and using the language. Since the1990s, Focus on Form, namely the combination of meaning and form in language teaching, has been the focus of attention of the researchers of second language acquisition and foreign language teaching. Therefore, the author tries to apply Focus on Form to the teaching of grammar items of attributive clause and non-finite verbs, thus exploring the suitable ways of learning English grammar by senior high school students. Two parallel classes of NO.32High School in Tianjin were randomly selected as the Control Class (CC) and the Experimental Class (EC) with the number of45students each. The CC and EC remained the same in test scores of attributive clauses and non-finite verbs, teaching materials, the teacher and other aspects. The only difference lay in the grammar teaching approach. The Grammar Translation Method was utilized in the CC, with presentation-practice-produce, while the EC followed the procedures of Focus on Form:supply open activities, figure out the relationship between form and meaning, and apply the grammatical rules effectively. The research tools for the experiment were tests and questionnaires. One pre-test, two post-tests, one pre-questionnaire and one post-questionnaire were used to collect data. SPSS18.0was applied to analyze the data results. The study lasted for more than two terms from September2010to November2011.The test results showed that, compared with the students in CC, those in EC performed much better in understanding and using grammatical items—the attributive clause and non-finite verbs. At the same time, comparing the results of pre-questionnaire and post-questionnaire, the author found that students in EC gradually accepted the Focus on Form teaching approach, and improved their learning interest. From what the tests and questionnaires exposed above, Focus on Form is easy and suitable for students to accept, and ameliorate teachers’ teaching efficiency and students’learning effect. Moreover, the abilities of discovering, exploring and solving problems are improved.
