American Community College And Its Effect To The District Economy

As the advent of economic globalization and the coming of information age, the workfield has taken a great change, which demands of the labors to have a high level of culture andtechnology. As the United States enters the21stcentury, many diverted challenges and issuesappear in the realm of workforce and economic development. The workers must accept ahigher level of education and training, so they can adapt to the changing economic situation.Community college is a most important part of the American higher education, whichpromotes the development of local human capital through various of economic developmentactivities, and then they make a great progress to the entire region’s economy. This articlemainly discusses the community colleges in the development of labor, and then expounds itseffect to the local economy.The first chapter of the text is the development of the American’s community college. Thissection explores the community college’s establishment, development process, functiontransformation and historic mission. The major part is that community college is changing theeducation functions to the economic functions, for it providing a theoretical basis to discussthe impacts of community college on local economy.Chapter2mainly discusses community college’s economic development activities inwhich the most important part is partnership. This section dwells on the traditional andmodern economic development activities of the community college which from the side onthe performance of the function transforming of the community college. The communitycollege highlights the economic development function.Chapter3introduces that community college influence the development of regionaleconomy through the labor force. This part mainly introduces the cooperation between schooland enterprises. Community colleges cooperate with local enterprises through contracttraining, establishing small enterprise centers, fostering entrepreneurship, these are allimportant measures to promote regional economic development.Chaper4introduces the influence of community college to local economy through a caseanalysis. I used the partnership between Alamo Community College District and ToyotaMotor Corporation for case, and explored the cooperation reasons, key influencing factors to the location of the Toyota Corporation, the process of labor force development and therelationship between community college, cooperation and economic developmentChapter5is a conclusion. I draw some enlightenment according to the case, partnershipis very important, school and enterprise cooperates to develop labor force, this is a veryeffective method to promote the economic development. Community College is an importantpart of higher education, the relationship between education and economy becomes more andmore closely.
