Geometric thinking ability is an important part of the geometric capacity, which includes elements of identification, conception, combination, judgment,etc. In early childhood stage it mainly reflected in the identification of plane geometry and the combination of plane geometry. This study selected a sample of180children aged3-6from urban and rural areas in Western Hunan Tujia ethnic Minority, took one-to-one test check way, colleced a wealth of firsthand information, statisticed and analyzed the data,also took in-depth discussion. As following, this paper consists of five parts:The first part is to raise issues. On the basis of the system combing and a large number of Chinese and foreign literature analyzing, point the starting of the argument of this study.The second part is the research process. This part introduced the object and test tools of this study, the process of test organization and data collection and processing.The third part of the study is the results and analysis. This part collected and analyzed the results of children’s identification and combination in plane geometry.Discussing is in section IV. On the basis of the geometric theories on Van Hieles,Clements, Jean Piaget, this part discussed the characteristics, diversities and dependency in early childhood development of plane geometry, and explored the experience factor in children’s plane geometry ability.The fifth part is the research conclusions and education proposals. This study proposed five conclusions:3-6years old children’s identification abilities of plane geometric figures are mainly on "Visualization", some children are on "pre-visualization level" and "syncretic level";3-6years old children’s composition abilities of plane geometric figures are mainly on "Piece Assembler" and "Picture Maker", some children are on "Pre-composer" and "Shape Composer";3-6years old children will take some strategies, such as "reference to the template""flip""rotate" to help them complete the task;3-6years old children’s identification and composition abilities of plane geometric figures have differences in age and urban-rural, have no significant difference in gender difference and ethnic difference;3-6years old children’s identification and composition abilities of plane geometric figures were related on a certain degree.
