According to the High school English syllabus, English teaching in high schools focuses onreading proficiency. That is why it is so important to improve the students’ reading abilities.To master good reading abilities, students need to employ some necessary reading strategies.Classroom questioning plays a vital part in English learning. Questioning is a widely usedway of interaction between the teacher and the learners and it can actually check the learningprocess of the learners, hence motivating the learners’ curiosity and strengthening theirlearning output.Numerous discussions and researches have been conducted on the classroom questioning aswell as the learners’ reading strategies. However, there are not enough researches on fosteringthe learners’ reading strategies through the teacher’s questions, which is focused on in thispaper. The researcher did an experiment to foster the students’ reading strategies throughteachers’ qualified questions. The researcher collected data for the study through observation,questionnaires, student interview and teacher interview.This study mainly undergoes the following three stages:First, a survey is conducted about the situation of teachers’ questioning and students’reading strategies. Second, an experiment is done to improve the students’ reading strategiesthrough teachers’ questioning strategies. Finally, the author makes a scientific analysis of thedata collected from the experiment, and draws a conclusion.
