Since the mathematical modeling enters senior high schools, the articles related to how to launch mathematical modeling teaching frequently have appeared in variety of journals of mathematics education and magazines of mathematics teaching. And those are also in full swing in senior high schools. Nowadays, what is the high school students’ level of mathematical modeling? What are the factors influence students’mathematical modeling? In regard to these questions, this thesis aims to study whether the high school freshmen’s level of mathematical modeling reach our expectation.The thesis is consist of six parts. The first part mainly introduces the development of mathematical modeling in high schools. Put forward the research question, and clarify the purpose and significance of the research question.The second part is literature reviews, which analyze domestic and abroad the principles, strategies and mode of high school mathematical modeling teaching, and general cognitive mode of mathematical modeling. As well, the mathematical modeling ability level are introduced.The third part is concept definition, including prototype, model, mathematical mode, mathematical modeling and mathematical modeling ability.The fourth part is the research design. A series of research activities about the issue are carried on, including the design of the test, the selection of the objects, the implementation of the test and the data encoding.The fifth part is the statistics and analysis, which is the core of the thesis. The results, analyzed by EXCEL and SPSS17.0, are freshmen1level of modeling ability, differences of modeling ability in gender, differences of modeling ability among schools and differences of mathematical modeling ability in different classes.The last part is conclusion, came from the former analysis. And some suggestions to the middle school mathematics modeling teaching are put forward. Finally, there are the shortage of this study and further outlook.
