The quality of education is directly determined by the quality of teacher education. High quality of teacher education is inseparable from the construction of the specialization of teacher educators. The great significance of the professional development of teacher educators which does good to improve the quality of teacher education and the quality of education has been realized by all over the world. The Association of Teacher Educators began to enact standards for teacher educators and gradually implement into, in order to continually promote the professional development of teacher educators and then promote the development of teacher education in America in the1990s.This study selected the standards for teacher educators as the research object, which cover from the background, development, main contents, prominent characteristics, practical significance, effect and existing problems, is a systematic, comprehensive and in-depth research. And on this basis, the study further discussed the enlightenment of the standards to the formulation and implementation of the professional standards for teacher educators in our country.The standards for teacher educators is enacted in the background of the requirements of the professional status,the mature of theoretical basis of professional standards and the promotion of the professional organizations through various efforts. The standards for teacher educators has formed three version and experienced three phases,which contains initially set up, continuously improved and widely used in the evolution of more than20years. The2008edition of standards for teacher educators is the most comprehensive and perfect, this version of the standards includes teaching, cultural competence, scholarship, professional development, program development, collaboration, public advocacy, teachers education profession and vision, each areas respectively contains the standard concept, theoretical basis, specific display (including achievement, for example, indicator and results show three modules) and standard attention. The Standards for Teacher Educators gradually formed its own characteristics in the process of constant evolution, which presenting the authoritative and professional maker, the uniform and developing goal orientation, the scientific and comprehensive structure and content, the divers and feasible implementation,etc. In addition, the Standards for Teacher Educators also have the great realistic significance of constructing professional status of teacher educators and leading the professional career of teacher educators. The Standards for Teacher Educators has made significant effect, such as promoting the teacher educators for the production and dissemination of professional knowledge, the molding and creating of professional culture, the solidification and improvement of professional construction, and the participation in social public service. At the same time, the Standards for Teacher Educators also inevitably encountered some problems and challenges, such as limited scope and standards authority suspected, which at a large extent affect the function of the standards. Currently, the professional Standards for Teacher Educators is basically in a blank state in our country. We should draw lessons from the beneficial enlightenment of the Standards for Teacher Educators, and start to do some work as soon as possible. Specifically, we should establish a professional organization to ensure that the policy authority and professionalism; make some theoretical research, to ensure the science and efficiency of the standard content; explore diversity and effective ways to implement standards.
