As is known to us all,writing,as one of the four basic skills inEnglish learning, plays an important role in English teaching. Besides, itis a fact that English writing accounts for high marks in the CollegeEntrance Examination, so either the teachers or the students in senior highschool are aware of the importance of writing English compositionssuccessfully. However, how to improve students’ writing abilityefficiently confuses many English teachers. Generally speaking, theproduct approach, the process approach, the genre approach and theprocess genre approach are the main approaches in Chinese writingclasses. In resent years, the process genre approach is well received,which gives full play to the advantages of all the three approaches.This thesis aims at exploring the application of the process genreapproach in English teaching to improve the writing ability of senior highschool students under the incentive evaluation strategies. The authorintroduced the background, the development, the principles and themodel of the process genre approach. The students’ writing interest andmotivation were stimulated under the incentive evaluation strategies,which made students improve writing ability more efficiently. In thisstudy, according to the author’s teaching experience and practicalteaching circumstance, the author put forward the following researchhypotheses:1) Can the process genre approach improve their English writing levelefficiently and effectively under the incentive evaluation strategies?2) Can the process genre approach stimulate students’ English writinginterest obviously under the incentive evaluation strategies?In the study, two classes participated as the experimental class and the control class. The experiment was carried out within20weeks,including the interviews, the pre-test, the post-test and questionnaires tocollect the data and information to make a conclusion. The data showsthat compared with traditional methods, the process genre approach canimprove the students’ writing level more effectively, and can meet thestudents’ learning psychology and requirements; and incentive evaluationstrategies can keep students’ interest and improve the students’self-confidence. Therefore, the teachers should appropriately encouragestudents adopting the process genre approach, which is very important tostudents’ English learning.The paper is composed of five chapters.Chapter One is an introduction. The author analyzed the currentsituation of English writing and put forward the significance of theresearch.Chapter Two is literature review. The author first reviewed threeapproaches in English writing teaching field. Then the process genreapproach was introduced, including the background, the development, theprinciples and the model. In addition, the theories involved in theresearch were introduced, namely, input and output theories, motivationtheory. Finally the incentive evaluation strategies were stated.Chapter Three briefly presented the purpose, hypothesis,subjects,instruments, experiment procedures, data collection and so on.Chapter Four is findings and discussion. The author analyzed thedata of tests and questionnaires from the experiment.Chapter Five is conclusion. The author learned a lot from the studyand pointed out that there were still some problems in English writingteaching. Meanwhile some suggestions were put forward to make theprocess genre conducted more effectively.Hopefully that this research can give inspiration in English writingteaching in senior high school and help English teachers fully understandand apply the process genre approach more efficiently in their teaching practice.
