“Women can hold up half the sky”, this proverb describes the truth of the arduouslife of the early Chinese immigrant women in the United States. During the early onehundred years of Chinese immigration to the united states, Chinese immigrant womenis recognized as an important human resource This article mainly focus on the timewhen the first Chinese immigrant women who arrived in the United States in1834and the time1943when the Exclusion Act was repealed. the author wish throughillustrate Chinese women immigrants’ motivation employment family life social lifeto make a detailed, impartiality, objectively analysis of the early Chinese immigrantwomen bitter struggle life in the United States.This thesis mainly consists of the introduction and the main body. Theintroduction illustrates the national and overseas researching status, aim, meaning andmethods of this thesis. The main body is chiefly constituted by five parts:The first part mainly discusses the motives and the immigration ways of the earlyChinese immigrant women. Part two through describes slavery girls, the wife ofChinese businessmen, students, garment factory workers these five differentoccupations to reach on the working environment, occupations and the economicsituation of these Chinese immigrant women. The third part discusses the changes inthe United States women’s family roles and status of Chinese immigrants and pointsout that although immigration has greatly improved the status of their families, butthey are still voluntary to play a role subordinate to their husbands, sons anddaughters. The fourth part analysis the social life of the Chinese immigrant womenfrom social and cultural participation and political activities. These social liveseffectively help them adapt to the new environment. The Political activities are mainlyfrom the group of students although during this time the Chinese immigrant women inAmerican politics is not active, to a certain they demonstrated their political influence.The fifth part is the conclusion; demonstrates that these Chinese immigrant women doplay an important role in maintenance and development of Chinese community.
