In the recent years, Ground Clutter Suppression (GCS) has become a hot topic in the field of airborne weather radar, and has been highly valuable for both military and civilian application. This dissertation mainly studies the methods of ground clutter suppression. The main work of this dissertation is as follows:In chapter 1, firstly, we review the research background and current situation of GCS technique. Secondly, the main contents of the dissertation are addressed. In chapter 2, the characteristic of weather target which includes corpuscular property, additivity and randomicity is firstly discussed, Then, the origin and the characteristic of ground clutter is analyzed. Finally, the radar equation is derivedand detailed randomicity is analyzed based on the feature of weather and clutter. In chapter 3,the simulation of weather target and ground clutter is done based on chapter 2 in detail. In this chapter, the model of weather target and ground clutter is established. Subsequently, the signal power is computed by radar equation. At the same time, for simulating authentic circumstance, the randomicity is considered. In chapter 4, firstly, some classical methods of ground clutter suppression is discusse. Then, on the foundation of authentic circumstance, areas are divided with features of ground clutter, and different methods are adopted in different areas. At the same time, in the area where ground clutter is mixed with weather signal, GMAP method is adopted. In the end, the simulation has been done and its merit and defect are discussed. In chapter 5, the work of this dissertation is concluded and the further research is also pointed out.
