Left-handed materials are synthetic metamaterials with the characteristic of simultaneousnegative permittivity and negative permeability. CRLH structure is one of the left-handed structureswhich realize the left-handed materials. Various of CRLH structures have been realized since theconcept of CRLH transmission line was proposed in2004. These CRLH structures have importantapplications in microwave components and circuits design. Compared with CRLH, SCRLH structurewith the advantages of compact size and simplicity of the design process is more convenient to designmicrowave devices. In this thesis, the SCRLH structure is analyzed firstly, and then its application inmicrowave passive components is investigated, such as filters, antennas.The main works are asfollows:1. A compact SCRLH transmission line structure is proposed, and a compact ultra-wideband(UWB) filter based on this SCRLH transmission line structure is designed. The non-uniformperiodical structure can help the SCRLH transmission line to realize wider passband, and asuper-UWB filter with with fractional bandwidth of142%based on non-uniform periodical SCRLHtransmission line is realized. The CSRRs are etched in the ground plane to achieve better performanceof upper stopband, and a super-UWB filter with wide upper-stopband is achieved.2. A improved SCRLH resonance antenna is designed and fabricated. The result shows that ithas the feature of compact size.3. A highly miniaturized SCRLH mushroom ZOR is proposed, and a bandpass flter based onthe ZORs is designed; the SCRLH mushroom resonator is further analyzed, a dual mode SCRLHresonator is realized, A UWB antenna with dual notched bands utilizing dual mode SCRLH resonatoris achieved.
