With the rise of virtual reality simulation technology, the collision detection problem becomes aresearch hotspot.As one of the key technologies of environment building for virtual maintenancesystem, the accuracy and real-time of collision detection directly affect the effect of the virtualmaintenance system. This paper uses virtual maintenance training system based on CATIA/CAAplatform as application background, researching real-time collision detection for virtual maintenance.First of all, the papers of various collision detection technology, especially the hierarchicalbounding volume and space partitioning technique has conducted in-depth study. Secondly, the papercombined with the large number of objects in the scene of large virtual maintenance complexgeometric model features, and design a hybrid algorithm based on a uniform grid level boundingvolume. The hybrid method combines the advantages of the space division method and hierarchicalbounding volume method: space division method can remove unnecessary test objects, hierarchicalbounding volume rule can quickly detect whether two objects collide. The hybrid algorithm, based onthe OBB bounding volume in-depth study, including the structure bounding volume, the structurallevel surrounded by trees, bounding volume intersection test, the triangle intersection test andsurrounded refresh, and hash data structure in the space is divided to accelerate the retrieval. Throughexperiments that the hybrid algorithm is superior to the ordinary level bounding box algorithm. ForVirtual Maintenance scenes action and more static, as well as the adjacent interval scene smalldifferences, then, the paper proposed an optimization method based on temporal correlation ofcollision detection performance. Traversal path through the record in a time period of two surroundedby trees, this method reduces the number of time bounding volume intersection test, resulting inimproved real-time collision detection. Through the experiment, the improved algorithm is superior tothe common traversal algorithm.Finally, CATIA/CAA-based platform, the secondary development of real-time collision detectionand its application to China Virtual Maintenance Demolition process. The collision detectionfunctionality to meet the accuracy and real-time collision detection in virtual maintenance, laid thefoundation for the development of Virtual Maintenance Training System.
