Power transformer is one of the most important electrical equipments in the high-pressured power transmission and transformer system. In order to guarantee the safe operation of the electric Power system, the study of transformer on-line condition monitoring and fault diagnosis technology could find the potential faults of the transformer earlier. It is of great significance to increase Operation maintenance level and power supply reliability of the transformer.In this paper, a transformer fault diagnosis and expert system Software has been designed based on the comprehensive study of the power transformer’s Common faults. According to the online monitoring fault feature information and take the electric power equipment preventive testing procedures DLT 596—1996 as basis, and according to the power supply system’s procedure data and experience data, combining with the previous accident experience to judge whether the current transformer’s operation is abnormal or not, thus complete transformer common fault diagnosis. The specific diagnosis process is basically based on the dissolved gas content in oil, producing gas velocity to judge whether the transformer has fault or not, through the experience data diagnose transformer concrete fault parts and types, such as core local short circuit, damp, core multipoint grounding, oil arc breakdown etc. And give measures and suggestions.System software used Visual Basic 6.0 as programming languages and Microsoft SQLServer2000 as database, design a friendly human-machine interface and complete real-time storage and management of monitoring data. Software functions include the transformer‘s common faults inquiry, database modification, and the inquiry of the transformer commonly used diagnostic methods, database modification, fault diagnosis and so on.The fault diagnosis system of transformer formed by system software and data monitoring unit is significance to improve transformer fault prediction’s scientific, timeliness and correctness of the diagnosis and lay the foundation of electric power system changing planning overhaul to state overhaul.
