| As an automatic identification technology, the RFID was widely used in the movement of goods, the management of military supply, the processes of manufacture, the track and protection of materials and so on. With the continuous advancement of technology, its application is rapidly expanding. The distance and range of the modern RFID system were constrainted by the power and process, so the system could not reach a good proformance. In the paper, an RFID system based on phased antenna array which could extend the coverage of reader system was designed. The system consisted of the Intel? R1000 reader development platform, the switch chip MASWSS0204, the power divider, phase shifters and antenna array. The center frequency of this system was 915 MHz in accordance with ISO 18000-6C and EPC global Gen 2 standard. The phased array principle was introduced by the system and a simple change was carried out on the reader platform. The structure of the hardware was designed. The phased antenna array had four microstrip patch antennas, three Wilkinson power dividers and a transmission line phase shifter printed on the FR4 substrate.First, we used the network analyzer of Agilent E5062A to test every module of phased antenna array. The network parameters of each module were dectected. From the result, we could know that the design fit the requirement. Then, we built the whole RFID system with the reader INTEL R1000, the tags made by Ivengo and the phased antenna array. We also tested the system to verify the function. The experimental results indicated that the system extends the coverage of RFID signals compared to the existing RFID systems. |
