We discuss the principle of a new tension control strategy in the design of optical fiber ribbon turret, and describe selection of the important control elements. Introduce an exact control style based on precise tension sensor, PLC, inverter and HMI display loop control.At first, describe the development of optical communication market, the domestic demand of turret of the optical fiber ribbon and forecast, it show clearly that optical fiber ribbon cable is a correct solution to family. And exact remaining length data in the cable is also a challenge to tension control. We consider process requirement enough, including precision of tension sensors, immunity, parameter detection and data transmission, precision of motors. So we provide final solution as followed:utilize precise sensors to detect tension, AO output, PLC to read, calculate, output and record, inverter to control motors rotary speed and HMI to display and input parameter. Simultaneity, on the basis of introducing the integral PID algorithm, we also take special PID algorithm to solve the problem of system vibration during startup stage, and good effects are obtained.The main work includes:tension sensor principle and selection, inverter and VF motor principle and selection, tension control scheme, selection of PLC, HMI and programming. This paper introduces PLC software design, motor control program edit, tension adjustment programming and perfect the tension control system function. The design of HMI interface is by WINCC Flexible, realize online tension adjustment, provide such applications as tension alarm etc..The conclusion is as followed:utilize tension sensor to detect the tension of optical fiber ribbon, transmit obtained analog signal to PLC for calculation, then feedback to inverter to control VF motor, we can get tension of ribbon to1.0N~6.0N±0.1N, fully meet the process requirements.
