BIM (Building Information Modeling), as a new3D parametric design tool, has become one of the main platforms in the current architectual design field.3D BIM design software which is able to integrate a large number of engineering information on building models, enjoys an incomparable advantage in the building’s lifecycle comparing to other3D design software. Revit Architecture is one of the most representative BIM software, the main features of which are parametric design, component correlation design, parameter-drive form design and collaborative design. Revit is becoming the preferred design tool of many architects.Based on the platform of Revit Architecture2013, this paper mainly studies the use of adaptive component function in the modeling method of complex forms and surface in architecture. After many modeling experiments of various buildings, the author has explored the application characteristics in adaptive component, concluded a widespread modeling method, and developed the modeling capabilities of Revit in complex forms and surface. This paper is composed of five chapters. The first chapter is the introduction part, which mainly introduces the background, current status, methods, the purpose and significance of this research, followed by main content and structure. The second chapter talks about the preparation phase of the modeling experiments. The main principle and related concepts of the adaptive function will be introduced in this chapter. The third and the fourth chapters are the core parts of this paper. Through many types of modeling experiments, these two parts will explore how the adaptive component function works in the modeling processes and methods of building forms and surface. The modeling abilities and characteristics will also be summarized in the part. The fifth chapter is the conclusion part, which summarizes the main research results of this paper, and discusses the strengths and weakness of the adaptive component in modeling as well as some improved methods. The whole thesis contains about20000words,99pictures and charts.
