As demands for wireless broadband access is growing, current mobile communication network is difficult to meet users’requirement for high data rate, good operation ability, and service diversity. So nowadays many technologies are developed, such as the evolving B3G technology based on the existed3G mobile communication technology, and the802.1In which is improved in the traditional LAN standard802.11series. Compared with B3G and802.11, WiMAX has familiar target, but is more flexible. By far, the latest version of802.16farmily-802.16m has been released, it comprises more up-to-date technology aspects, which makes its performance of communication as good as the existing latest commercial communication technology.However, the current802.16e standard isn’t perfect on supporting mobility yet, especially handover delay interval still can be shorten in some degree. Data transmission in large amount with good communication quality requires that handover delay (including L3handover) should be less than200ms, otherwise service quality can’t be guaranteed. Thus handover strategy has a great influence on market plan of the next generation WiMAX, and fast effective handover strategy makes WiMAX more competitive in the mobile communication field.In this paper, a handover scheme considering user’s bandwidth requirement is designed at first. Because only base stations that fulfill user’s bandwidth need are scaned, some unnessesary scan is excluded, and scan time is reduced. Next, a power detection using802.16e scan messages is presented based on an existed power detection scheme. Through the simulation of the handover shceme which takes use of this power detection solution, it shows that the handover shceme is better than the original802.16e handover solution. At last, a WiMAX handover scheme based on moving direction prediction is presented, and this handover scheme with different mobility prediction algorithm is analysed through simulations. The results show that the handover scheme based on mobility prediction is better than the original802.16e handover solution.
