In short-range wireless communication, the UWB wireless communication has aroused great concern is due to its capability of providing high data throughput. Antenna design for UWB applications offers significant practical value and challenges. The present study on UWB antenna as follows:in addition to meet the communication systems requirements, miniaturize the size, low the cost and to avoid the interference with the other wireless communication systems. In the application of short-range wireless communication, this thesis addresses the miniaturized portable antenna for UWB communication and band notched UWB antenna. The primarily work in this paper as follows:First of all, the paper sums up the development of the miniaturized and band notched UWB antenna in recent years. The parameters and analytical method of the UWB antenna are presented. Then, volume of26mm×25mm×1mm UWB antenna is designed. The antenna’s bandwidth and radiation pattern are analyzed in frequency domain. These parameters meet the communication systems requirements. And then, in order to investige the antenna’s radiation and reception characteristics, the transfer function and group delay are analized in time domain. The results show that the antenna can meet the communication systems requirementsSecondly, in the application of WUSB (Wireless USB Dongle Application), the CPW-fed UWB was half cut. Two tapered microwave coplanar strip (MCS) fed the UWB antenna. This structure improves the impedance matching in the whole UWB band. By changing the antenna’s dimension, a compact UWB antenna is got. The volume of the antenna is26mm×12mm×1mm.Finally, the principle of notch function is analyzed by the distribution of surface current and transmission line theory. Based on the coplanar waveguide fed UWB antenna, and the antenna with two band-notched UWB is proposed. To realize the antenna, two slots are opened on the antenna. In the frequency range of3.3GHz-3.7GHz and5.125GHz-5.825GHz the antenna has two stop bands. The antennas are manufactured and measured. The experimental results coincide with the simulation result.
