The segment erector is commonly used equipment on the shield tunnel boring machine, when the shield machine has tunneled for a distance, the tunnel which has been excavated need to be supported appropriately by the prefabricated segments. The role of the segment erector is that assemble the segments accurately and safely in the right place in accordance with scheduled form.During the construction process,the shield machine tunnel for a distance and then stop.The segment erector begin to work and assemble a ring of segment,so whether the segments are assembled quickly and accurately to appropriate location will make big difference to the construction schedule and cost.This situation bring higher demands to the segment erector operator.The operator do professional training with real equipment not only cost very much and hard to get a good operability but also have low efficiency and it’s difficult to train with large scale.The geological conditions of underground are very complex,the tunnel construction will have to face many unpredictable risks,such as flood..landslides,hazardous gases and so on.In order to make sure the workers work in a safety situation and improve the workers’ability of dealing with emergency incidents, it’s very necessary and urgent to teach them the treatment to deal with some unexpected incidents.The background of this project is above. This project has explored the application of virtual reality technology in segment erector deeply and tried to develop a virtual reality system that can help segment erector operator improve their operation skills and practise how to deal with unexpected accidents. The major development tools are Visual Studio NET2003that belongs to Microsoft Corporation, Creator and Vega Prime which come from Multigen-Paradigm company (Presagis Inc).The main contents are as follows:(1) Know about the development process of virtual reality technology and its significance,learn and be familiar with the main function of a variety of development tools investigate the feasibility of virtual simulation that rely on such tools.(2) Know about the basic process of shield construction and master the structure and function of a kind of segment erector.Create, modify and manage simulation models with corresponding development tools.(3) Generate the MFC framework with Visual Studio2003and make sure it is configured correctly with Vega Prime so that programmer can call the API library functions of Vega Prime. Combined with the action mechanism of the segment erector, to achieve real-time control of the segment erector action and simulation of assembling a ring segments by writing the corresponding code.Main research achievement:Apply the virtual reality technology to underground construction equipment. Enhance the interactivity and immersion of simulation by real-time controlling the segment erector’s actions and loading special audio files and simulate to assemble a ring of segments.
