With the development of the times and technology, general processing chips such as FPGA, DSP, and PowerPC are developing rapidly. However, the high-performance embedded real-time processing platform is an integrated system which is composed by the processing units such as FPGA, DSP, storage devices, and IO, etc. Therefore, to improve the performance of a processor alone does not meet the requirements of the overall performance improvements. Traditional bus such as PCI and the VME, to some extent, has been hindered improvements of embedded processing platform performance. Now, Serial RapidIO as the representative of the new bus Structure to a certain extent be able to increase the bus bandwidth and data transfer rate. Therefore, the study of the high-performance embedded real-time processing platform which is based on the RapidIO is particularly important.The paper is a pre-study research projects undertaked by a corporate about embedded real-time system which based on RapidIO. First, the paper introduces the significance and domestic and international status of the subject about the embedded processing platform. Second, it gives a detailed analysis of embedded processing platforms hardware and software architecture, a overall design of hardware and software,the design of hardware circuit containing high-performance processor such as FPGAs, DSPs and PowerPC ect.Then it introduces CAN bus, RS485bus, optical fiber communication interface in addition to serial RapidIO, and power supply design, circuit debugging, Last, author realizes the hardware design of embedded platforms and transplants the Vxoworks operating system on the hardware platform, However, due to the Vxworks OS start-up time is very slow, affecting the overall performance of the embedded processing platform, the authors analyzed a whole boot process and start-time distribution of the Vxworks OS understanding by the board support package. The paper proposes a safety and efficiency startup program of the operating system by modifying the Board Support Package, The design can be better to complete the startup of the operating system. I design a software program to complete the online updates of the software.it makes the follow-up maintenance and upgrades easier. The paper builds a RapidIO communication environment to compare with the Gabit Ethernet, and analysis of the similarities and differences of ways of working and performance differences about RapidIO and Ethernet.Then it verified the structure and realized the RapidIO overall performance.Finally, the paper summarizes some of the points in the embedded processing platform development, and analysis some of the factors that impede embedded development. The research of high-performance embedded real-time processing platform which is based on RapidIO has the use of meaning and reference value.
